How Do I Dispose Of...
TELEVISIONS - The Cass County Recycling District accepts electronics five days a week for area residents. You must contact the district office at (574) 732-9253 to make an appointment. We are located at 518 High St. We will not pick up electronics. They must be delivered after making an appointment.
LARGE HOUSEHOLD ITEMS - Sofas, beds, tables, etc, and any additional trash bags are collected on your regular trash pickup day in Logansport. Items need to have a pre-paid $1 sticker attached. Stickers can be purchased at several locations. Carpet and padding must be in 4-foot lengths, bundled, and weigh less than 50 pounds; each bundle must have a $1 sticker on it. County residents should contact their hauler about disposal of these items. City residents can call the Public Works Department with questions: (574) 753-4610.
APPLIANCES - White goods with CFC gas, including refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers require special disposal. Call an appliance dealer to remove the gasses. The Public Works Department will also do it for a fee. Items need a gas removal certificate before disposal. Other white goods, like stoves, washers and hot water heaters, will be picked up for city residents at no additional cost by calling Public Works: 753-4610. County residents should call their hauler for service.
LARGE HEAVY OBJECTS - Large automotive parts, concrete, and similar material will be picked up for city residents by calling Public Works. Also call Public Works for building material disposal options: (574) 753-4610. County residents can call Secondary Metals or similar companies for disposal of metal items. To dispose of building material, contact Oakridge Landfill.
YARDWASTE - Logansport residents are encouraged to find alternate ways to dispose of items like leaves, grass, plants, and small trimmings. These include mulching of grass clippings and leaves, a backyard composting pile or tilling garden refuse back into soil. Residents can also place material in a 2-ply, biodegradable, 30 gallon paper bag that can be purchased at several local stores; this is the only approved receptacle. Pickup is then on the regular trash day, by the Public Works Department from April until November 30.
LOOSE BRUSH - The Logansport Public Works Department dump trucks pick up large amounts of loose brush from residential homes; no contract work will be picked up.
TIRES - In the past, the district has hosted a tire amnesty day. In 2013, the Solid Waste District Board voted to take tires from area residents five days a week; by appointment. That ran from mid April until the beginning of August. We are taking tires by appointment now until the end of July or until appointments slow down. The first ten car tires are free for Cass County residents; each additional car tire is $2, with semi tires $5, and tractor tires are $15 each for the first four and $30 each for tractor tires 5-10..
PAINT - A lot of the paint that is used by area residents is Latex, which is water based. If you are unable to give it to someone else to use, you can dry it out and leave the lid off, and dispose of it with your regular trash. Kitty litter will help dry it out. Oil based paint needs to be taken to out HHW Day, which is in October.
MOTOR OIL - Small quantities can be taken to our HHW Day in October at Logansport High School. If you have any questions, contact the district office.
